Latvian and Turkish transport ministers agree to encourage freight transport by "Zubr" railroad
During a meeting between Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss and Turkish Transport and Communication Minister Binali Yildirim had a meeting in Riga today to discuss the opportunities for the development of freight transport in the transport corridor between the Baltic and Black Sea, the Transport Ministry informed LETA/Nozare.lv.

During the meeting, held as part of Turkish President Abdullah Gul's official visit to Latvia, the ministers signed a protocol of intent on cooperation in transport and logistics, including the development of freight transport between Turkey and the Baltic Sea on the "Zubr" container freight railroad.

Matiss noted both countries' successful cooperation in the aviation industry. There are Turkish companies operating at the Riga International Airport, and airlines of both countries perform regular flights between Latvia and Turkey.

The ministers agreed that there was great potential for further cooperation, especially in the transit and aviation areas.

President Andris Berzins also emphasized the importance of the "Zubr" railroad during a joint press conference with the Turkish president today.
