RZD Logistics and a Chinese company CCTA will organize delivery from China to Europe and in reverse direction across the ports of Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions

JSC RZD Logistics, the largest intermodal logistics operator in the CIS and Baltic countries, and International Coordination and Service Center for Land Bridge Block-Train Programmes at China Communications and Transportation Association (CCTA) agreed on the joint promotion of intermodal service of container delivery across the routes China-Europe-China.

The solemn signing of a memorandum on cooperation took place at the stand of RZD Logistics and its subsidiary FELB in the framework of the world’s largest transport and logistics exhibition transport logistic China 2018 in Shanghai. The document was signed by the First Deputy CEO of RZD Logistics Mr. Andrey Tonkikh and Director General of International Coordination and Service Center for Land Bridge Block-Train Programmes at China Communications and Transportation Association (CCTA) Mr. Wu Jingyu.

The cooperation of parties involves the joint promotion on the markets of China and Europe of speedy delivery of container cargo from various cities of China through the ports of Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions to terminals in Europe and in reverse direction. RZD Logistics will be responsible for container trains’ formation on the following route: border points with China – the ports of Leningrad (port Bronka) and Kaliningrad region. CCTA, which has reliable partners among the platform companies of China, will promote intermodal service in China.

During the first stage of cooperation the parties will evaluate the possibility of speedy delivery of container cargo across the route: China – the ports of Kaliningrad region – the ports of Germany – the terminals of Germany; China – port Bronka – ports in Europe – terminals in Europe. Test shipments are scheduled for the second half of 2018. According to the parties’ estimations, potential cargo flow on this route will be not less than 100 000 TEU per year.

Apart from this, the parties to the agreement will hold in June-August 2018 joint events in the format of conferences aimed at the promotion of intermodal routes on the market of railway container transportation.

“I am convinced that the start of our cooperation with CCTA will become a successful development of the strategy on the enhancement of transit shipments across the international transport corridor “East-West” by means of railway and sea transportation. We have recently achieved an agreement with Fenix company – the operator of a Multifunctional Sea Cargo Complex "Bronka" – on the transshipment of containers through its port. Another agreement has been achieved with the world’s largest logistics group DB Cargo AG. It is devoted to the delivery of cargo from China across the ports of Kaliningrad region to the terminals of Europe and in reverse direction. Such strong partnership will help us to significantly diversify transit cargo flow and increase the volume of shipments”, - commented after the signing ceremony First Deputy CEO Andrey Tonkikh.
